1. molecules that determine the smell diffuse in the air. This makes the smell less concentrated and less intense to the point where you can no longer feel it
2. smell receptors in the nose (as pretty much all the receptors in the body...) get desensitized if they are affected by the same factors for prolonged periods of time. This means that if you stay in a stinky room long enough (tens of minutes - hours) -- you will no longer feel the smell.
If you fart a lot in the same small room w/o any ventilation, you will hardly even feel the smell after a while. If you walk out for 5 minutes to get a cup of coffee and walk back in, you'll be blasted away by the stench as soon as you open the door. -
your science background is wrong in not realising that "fart" describes nothing that actually exists, but an event.
-
@tosensei correct, I was actually referring to "fartus lingerus". But for simplicity chose to use the term fart.
-
@Demolishun well, even if you use fart to describe the products of a fart, it's still an abstract concept. just like "heap".
is one grain of sand a heap? no. are 2000 grains of sand a heap? yes. so where's the border between "heap" and "not heap"? - there is none, because it's just an abstract, arbitrary fuzzy description for a certain constellation of matter. but the grains of sand don't mind how you arrange them or how you call that arrangement.
or, more poetically: "do not try and smell the fart - that's impossible. instead only try to realise the truth: there is no fart. then you'll see that it's not the fart that smells, it is only yourself" -
Well duh, it can't just disappear. That's why you open Windows, so it can attract the butt particles, then burn this shit up. 😉 Butt dust will be the least of your worries by then.
-
Possibly some of the particles are lighter than air so they remain a permanent but diluted additive
Oh fuck you lol
What happens to a fart?
Does it disappear?
Well my science background says it cannot disappear. So what happens to the fart?
My theory is that the air cools and can no longer suspend the butt particles in the air. So all the particles fall to the ground. On the ground this forms a layer of butt dust.
So remember when you walk around the house without shoes on. There is butt dust sticking to your feet.
