I just want to say it annoys the shit out of me that my B.Sc. Bachelor's degree in CompSci isn't enough for (ignorant) employers.

Now I have to waste time getting certs in fad languages (even though I did projects in them in college) just so I'm 'marketable' again. Man, f*** this bs.

Ridiculous requirements nowadays!

The HR system for hiring programmers/developers is sooo broken.

To be fair, I'm doing a BSc right now, and looking at my passing coursemates and the level of expectations, I wouldn't consider this a useful arbiter for employment either.

@lorentz some universities are terrible. Mine was so bad people could pass computer science only knowing how if statements and for loops work

Employers along time ago decided to cut costs by not investing in people

And that comp sci dehree isn't always necessary to find a developer job or wasn't

Why do you need certs? I've almost never seen a usa engineering job req that asks for certs. Rather they ask for experience. Maybe you could build something and talk about that in interviews. Or do you live in a country where it's normal to require certs?

@taylorswift same here, except for IT, devops, and cybersecurity type jobs

I'm Master of Science in Engineering, with Software Engineering my main. I'm still required to do certs. It's the ignorant clients who use certs as competence meter.

@Crost Mine was much more severe and required us to have broad insight. They were very scientific, structured and methodical.

@taylorswift I need certs because I have to somehow show them that I am marketable in x and y framework. I'm on severe time constraints so I don't have time to build something nor get certs. It's a tough situation. All that's left now is apply for more jobs.
