Buying a mechanical keyboard was probably one of the best decisions I ever made!

I had one, but it died and I've been meaning to replace it. Mine was one of the old IBM style spring keys. I actually really like those. But I'd love a backlit keyboard as well.

Any recommendations? The manufacturer I used before doesn't offer anything like that.

@mhall I've been using a CODE keyboard with Cherry MX green switches for about a year now and I'm really happy with it, although it is one of the more pricey options. https://codekeyboards.com

@mhall I believe there are also quite a few companies making replica IBM model M keyboards with spring keys as well!

@buddy148 Thanks - I was looking briefly into the Cherry MX line ... there's some cool looking gear. I don't mind spending some money for a good keyboard.

I actually like the noise of the click on the buckling spring keyboards. Do you know if Cherry MX offers anything like it? The last keyboard I had was purchased from a company using the old IBM molds, but it barely lasted two years do before dying. I probably should have looked to have it repaired rather than throwing it out ...

@temportalflux - Well what I like about the buckling spring keyboards that I was mentioning, is that you're not dealing with the typical chiclet style keys and mushy feel with almost no travel.

Those keys have pronounced travel and a distinct feel and sound as positive feed back that the key was pressed. I found I typed much faster and accurately on those than the usual chiclet keyboard.

But if you get your typing velocity up and have officemates, they may not like you. I've been told it sounds like a machine gun. :)

@mhall I'd recommend having a look at the different types of Cherry MX switches, some of them are designed to be clicky/springy and to have a fair bit of travel. This page has a list of the different types http://wasdkeyboards.com/mechanical...
