"Code monkey" is just the professional alias for "code mechanic" in comparison to the actual "developer", who also does research and development and writes original code instead of "just" copying and boilerplating components and only applying minor changes to them.

Maybe the business people are making less than the developer, and are jealous of developer. People often try to mask their insecurity by insulting others.
