tedge3072yCool, I don’t know how that got misconstrued. But yeah I want my hardware supported by windows insofar as there is software that I need that is exclusive to windows.
-
@Oktokolo that's the major reason i'm still on windows. no linux-version of my image software "CaptureOne", and the alternative - OS-X - would be even worse.
-
@Oktokolo I hate the way that Windows puts a backslash at the end of URIs (made by the Java URI library) that otherwise have no slash at the end of them. Fucks up the unit tests that work fine on everyone's Macs and the gitlab runners using a linux distro.
Corporate won't enable WSL for Windows users. POSIX compliance or bust on the workstation and the server, I say! -
@dontbeevil windows used to cut off laptops every new version by making gpu drivers etc. not work unless you did some minor modding. Also, they killed massive amounts of peripherals with the move to 64bit since there were no compatible drivers. Admittedly, they kept releasing 32bit versions for a very long time. Devices that worked with win8 have been working with all versions since, so they had to come up with a way to make people buy more stuff.

@ess3sq sadly, no luck with wine. and not sure a VM will work, either - not for the full experience. the tool uses GPU accelleration for a smooth workflow, and TBH i don't feel like fiddling around with PCIE-passthrough and stuff
@helloworld oh, but i do. it's a combination of "all the bad parts about windows" with "none of the good parts about windows", combined with terribly overpriced and misengineered hardware that, frankly, looks horrible. -
@Oktokolo i've actually used rawtherapee before i got capture one.
it's great, but it is somewhat lacking. especially in ease of use and preview-performance (which matters a lot). plus it seems to become abandonware, with the last release being from 2020
I tend to be OS agnostic, but I hate the way that Microsoft treats yesterday’s hardware like garbage. I was an unfortunate owner of a surface rt. I also currently own 3 machines with older i7 processors that are not supported by Windows 11.
