sariel85342yPetty admins that hate that India is blocked from 75% of the world because its government allows multi-billion dollar scam centers to operate.
It's seriously stupid at this point to geoblock.
It was a legit way to stop spam/ddos 20 years ago, hell even 5 years ago, but now VPNs are so cheap and readily available it's pointless. -
@sariel I agree with you that our government is shit and even shittier to allow scamsters.
However, I don't think it would be a multi billion dollar industry. I might be wrong though.
And still geo blocking incoming traffic is pointless especially with such valid use cases. -
Hazarth94552yYeah, imagine creating a "world wide network" and then reducing it on purpose out or spite. Because that makes sense
-
sariel85342y@Floydimus it's $18 million a year and growing.
You're right it's not billions, but it's not far off from being a billion dollar industry if they keep growing. -
You don't even need a vpn. You can rdp or teamview to "A computer near you" to do this.
Advanced use case is SSH tunnel.
But the actual reason they block is to stop bot scalper operations. India subsidize medicine. America does not. This creates scammy medicine shop sites. -
@sariel well I am closer to $18M than $18M is to a Billion. I might have $1000 in my bank or something.
@magicMirror I get that, however if that was an issue, they are not delivering to the US anyway so how would it impact these folks?
What about travel? Whenever I login to a local travel brand, the access is restricted. Now imagine I shop for a flight and want to check something from the foreign land and all I am shown is a middle finger.. -
I once thought about creating a tourism site for a town I despise and making it seem happy for anyone already in the state and like a psycho cult to everyone else lol
-
@Floydimus
Not sure about the other "local brand" site.
The pharma scalpers use a package forwarder. Those provide a middle man, with an address in India, and then forward the package to the US buyer taking a shipping fee cut. The scammer does not even see the package. Just facilitates the purchase. Think doordash, but global, plus import/export tax fraud.
The remailer is not a bad actor. I sometimes use it to buy Shit from US online shops that only ship inside the US. -
JsonBoa29602y@magicMirror @Floydimus and yet in my company only there are hundreds of containers shipped every freaking month from India to the USA labeled "civilian postal service".
Those are cheap bastards using regular mail to forward goods. -
@prodigy214 with the help of my dear friend @TheKarlisK, we setup our own VPN and even documented how to do so.
If you want to refer that, let me know and I shall share it. -
@max19931 exactly putting forward a page suggesting the place is happy and savory and warning everyone from outside the general area away lol
Wouldn’t work if they had a local vpn
Actually I’m sure I’ve seen this kind of trickery luring people places -
epictern1482y@Floydimus so wait a minute.. oracle offers an always free VM instance? I'm definitely going to set this up and get back to you!
-
@epictern Yes, my dear friend.
They are very late to the cloud world and their interface is crap. But the free tier is awesome.
10TB monthly up and down on free tier. Nobody offers that. -
epictern1482y@Floydimus what is the difference between using OpenVPN and pivpn? I have found the setup for pivpn to be quite straightforward
-
epictern1482y@Floydimus I managed to setup the VPN with your tutorial although I did face an internal firewall issue which was fixed after I modified some iptable rules. Did you not face such an issue?

Companies who geo block their sites for no fucking reason can go fuck themselves.
So a bunch of retarded pharmacies in India, geo block hits from anywhere outside of India.
A thousands of Indians are living abroad with their parents and family living in India.
Imagine, I have to order medicines for my parents since they are not very tech savvy and I cannot do that because some rotten brained guava thought that it's a good idea to geo block access.
What is the fucking point in doing so? There are many such companies, especially Indian who do so. I have keep toggling my VPN because of this.
