What does it mean when a company asks: “are you authorised to work lawfully for $company in the country this position is based in?”

Does it mean if you have work permit or what?

Below this question, they also asks if the candidate will also need visa sponsorship.

    If you can say yes to one of the following, then yes you can work for them:

    - are you a citizen or permanent resident of said country?

    - are you in the country on a working visa?

    if no to all the above, you need to be sponsored on a working visa to get the job.

    Yeah, it means "are you legally eligible". So generally that's either of you're a citizen, you have a relevant visa, or you have an agreement with another country where you can work there automatically (EU countries, UK/Ireland, etc.)

    Oh yeah, the "instantly rejected if you answer no" button. Yep.

    Don't know if it is related but if you want to work for army/spatial industry for ex, you need a security clearance.

    Maybe it is about this.
