Me: So how do you handle conflict
Candidate: I use git kraken to highlight my conflicts and walk through them one by one

Probably the most developer answer i've ever heard hahaha

I actually didn't know that existed, I'll give it a try then.

I hope I did know it when I had projects to do for school, had a friend who always have trouble with git and everytime, I have to do the merge. So much pain in the ass

I would use gitkraken if it could sign commits

Pretty useless interview question to ask how you react in certain situations.

People will just make up an answer that sounds good.

The technical question he answered was way more useful.

To elaborate: I also used to ask this during interviews. it's like a standard question.
But I find you can't ever tell if the candidate is good or bad at handling conflicts based off their answer.

So these days I just tend to test them by giving them assignments about design decisions and saying confrontative things in response to their solutions.

I find it's mostly a good way of seeing who's a pushover, who gives up too easily and can't speak up for themselves even if they are 100% right.

It's rare to a candidate who is cocky and can't admit when they are wrong.
But it's useful for identifying who's too green or who will not be able to stand up to stupid decisions.
