No. But I'm ready for whatever will be there after.
I'm an engineer. I'm a builder. Not a fighter. -
sariel85343y@netikras I can appreciate the sentiment, but if things take a turn for the worse the only survivors will be fighters.
It's possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is a fact of life and you cannot change it.
No matter what the outcome of this insanity -
I'm contemplating going home to Budapest in a few months if the situation gets steadily worse, because London is probably big enough to get nuked. I don't expect very fast escalation because the cold war is a very stable situation with known positions and stalemates that both sides probably fall back to very quickly.
-
Really though, I think NATO will stuff Ukraine with weapons, Russia will eventually win through immense effort and massive sacrifices simply because this is far more important to them than it is to America and all that will have happened is for the western border of the eastern bloc to move eastwards a thousand kilometers.
-
I really hope I'm proven wrong and we don't get another iron curtain but I'm afraid that is the natural course of events.
-
@sariel some fight. Some hide.
I'm just saying you don't have to fight people to fight for life. Philosophicaly, every day is a fight [and that's what I live by]. It's just that we don't have to fight people... -
sariel85343y@netikras I'm also not saying physical fighting is what will save you.
The battles that are fought in a conflict zone take place on the field as well as in the mind.
In the aftermath of a catastrophic attack we will be forced to endure through trials that our minds have never dreamt of. We will make choices that will shake us to our core and irreparably damage who we are and who we think we are.
We will not only fight each other for our survival, but will battle with ourselves for the survival of our own ego.
Here are a few questions you should be asking yourself.
Are you willing to let yourself die of starvation to let a child live for another week? A month? How long is long enough?
Are you willing to let yourself die for your moralistic integrity? How much of yourself are you willing to sell to survive?
Would you be willing to die for strangers and receive nothing from it?
I know, none of these have clear answers. But only you can answer them for yourself. -
@sariel These are very easy questions, however, I'm not answering them publicly to avoid a public reaction.
Also, I don't really see how they relate to "fighting". If I had to label I'd tag them with "altruism" and "self-sacrifice".
Look, I'm a paranoic weirdo who has a zombie-apocalypse-kit packed and ready in a go-bag in my closet since... IDK, years ago? Not joking.
I know and have enough to survive in the woods for as long as it takes. I can BUILD an invisible shelter to hide from the enemy, build traps to catch food, build primitive (yet effective) defence and perimeter warning systems, escape paths, other stuff, in order to keep my and my fam's ass quiet and alive. I know (have tested) what min rations I can live on for a month and still be productive. Not to fight, but to survive... and probably shelter others.
There are other things I don't want to mention too that would definitely be useful if I'm captured/tortured. -
@sariel FFS, whenever I was in a fight as a kid or a teenager, my prime concern was not to injure my opponent. Not how to save my own ass, not to get a black eye, not to have my bone broken, but... How not to hurt that piece of shit that's attacking me.
I still have it (had to test it just a few weeks ago). I just find it too difficult to (physically) harm another human being...
I was born in nature, I was raised in nature, I know nature. As long as I'm in nature - I will survive. And so will the "child".
Each day is a fight for life. Food, diseases, traffic, ..., assaults, war, abuse of all kinds of power,.. Normally people call it "life". IMO question is, where do you draw a line between "life" and "fight" in your dictionary. -
Sure. But this isn't more WW3 than Afghanistan or Yugoslavia.
As long as no one is stupid enough to actually intervene when China is annexing Taiwan, it is just another local war like so many before. -
sariel85343y@netikras you seem to have it all figured out then.
We're pretty much the same as far as preparedness.
Just like to add, thinking about the scenario and being in the scenario are two completely different things. Our brains can only do so much to prepare us for the worst before instinct kicks in and we lose control over decision making.
Also, in the event of nuclear fallout seek thick dense protection not a tent in the woods. -
@sariel Thick dense protection wouldn't work in nuclear fallout, if this happen we have to admit we all going to fucked up (period)
-
@sariel
In case of nuclear war, try to be outside in the direct impact area for a quick death.
Slowly dying from radiation sickness is one of the most painful ways to die. But getting teared apart by the shockwave or insta-grilled by the flash happens so fast, that you barely feel anything. -
sariel85343y@priyanshu-zeon @Oktokolo that's not how a standard nuclear weapon works.
The initial flash is highly accelerated gamma rays. In the first ring you will be pretty much vaporized. Second ring, you will receive 3rd degree burns if you are not protected behind something dense, like a brick wall.
Also ensure that you cover your eyes, but chances are you won't be able to. This will cause blindness. Depending on yield and your proximity to ground zero, could last anywhere from 3-15 minutes or forever.
Again depending on yield and your proximity, the shockwave can take a few minutes to reach you. Seek shelter ins sturdy location that is below ground. A deep hole, well, basement or cellar. Lay as flat as you can against the ground. If you survive this you still have the fallout to contend with.
Fallout will begin to settle in 5-15 minutes. You must seek shelter at this point or risk radiation poisoning. Dense thick walls and ceilings with limited outside airflow. Stay put for 48 hours. -
sariel85343yOnce you make it to shelter, carefully remove your clothes and place them in a plastic sealable bag. Make sure to not disturb them as much as possible.
Clean your body with water and soap. You can use a cloth if needed, but be as gentle as possible. Any cuts or scrapes on your skin will allow the radioactive particles into your body, which may kill you.
Do not use hair conditioner, it binds fallout to your hair and will poison you slowly.
Depending on yield and your proximity, you have a 75% chance of surviving.
If you begin to get sick and vomit, chances are likely you have been exposed too much and are likely to die. -
@netikras There was a darpa project to be able to see 5000 ft underground anywhere in the world. It was budgeted and financed. It was completed a few years ago. The powers that be can find anyone anywhere.
https://abovetopsecret.com/forum/...
I had originally heard it was 50ft, I was shocked to see it at 5000 ft when I searched. I had originally heard about this project from a retired marine. He told me all sorts of things about the military and media that I was shocked to understand was going on.
