    @vane I have also received no mail from Google but I have seen the topic I linked.

    I’m just curious.

    @vane: what do you mean?
  • 1
    @macfanpl yeah there is information about it https://support.google.com/a/...

    Google finding ways to beat apples lead in value

    Sadly, all good things come to an end.
    I didn't have the business account and now I'm glad I didn't.

    @vane haven’t seen it. Thanks 😊

    Don't rely on Google services for your business because they are not reliable. It's as simple as that.

    @Fast-Nop well known fact 😀

    Well I checked and I can migrate my domain account and data to icloud email and finally remove chrome from my computer yay, thanks google.

    This is going to hit me too but saying this is why you should not build on Google while getting one of their top products for free for 16 years is a bit much.

    I do hate that they created this workspace thingy just to shove in a new business model for the same suite. That is just corporate bullshit strongarming lock-in. I also expect a longer grace period coming up due to pushback

    @dontbeevil ok so what do you use as equivalent?
  • 2
    @hjk101 He’s going to say Microsoft something.
  • 1
    @dontbeevil don't see a equivalent here.
    Where is the email using your domain for free? Can also get that paid from Google.

    So you ditched Google in favour of the one company that really does not understand how e-mail works...

    @dontbeevil Do you use anything that isn’t from Microsoft?
  • 2
    @dontbeevil yes Microsoft is the only company in the world that breaks mail delivery and they only get away with it because they have a rather large user base. Delivering mail to MS accounts is a nightmare.

    If you set up a legit mail server complete with DKIM, SPF, DMARC and TLS certificates you can send mail to the whole world except for MS accounts. For that you need to register your domain and MTA with MS. Just imagine if every company in the world would do that.

    Even then if you're a small fish and two people mark the newsletter as spam instead of unsubscribing all your messages can get into MS spam and there is nothing you can do about it. MS is the only company it had major issues with in my 20 year career. I've used most services to send mail or via 3rd party (think invoicing service).

    @dontbeevil My kids’ gaming computer uses Win7, though I’m replacing it for security reasons. I also still have a really nice Microsoft keyboard I’ve used for years. It’s ps/2 though so it’s only a backup now, but it’s still one of the nicest keyboards I’ve used.

    I don’t use any of their software as my daily drivers are Debian and OSX, and MS only really builds software for windows. I don’t use any of their OS’s personally (especially recent ones), nor any of their cloud services like Azure. Though I guess I do use GitHub.

    Oh, I had email through office365 indirectly for awhile. It wasn’t a fun experience as the login often got stuck in a redirect loop, and sometimes just didn’t work due to js errors. I was usually able to get in after some fighting. (I closed the account a few months ago.)

    @dontbeevil yeah sorry mate you are not gonna win this one.
    Ask any MTA admin who you want to kill and it's going to be someone at Microsoft.
    You can ask any designer that needs to be making content that renders in mail clients. Your might have heard how people dislike IE6. Outlook is that (but worse) for the mail business.

    @dontbeevil I won’t use office. I’m not paying monthly for software. VS code is okay, but I prefer Sublime. Teams… I haven’t used it, but I’ve heard almost nothing but horror stories (amusingly even from Microsoft employees); slack and zoom are good enough for me. Honestly though, discord or irc and a phone is good enough for me: I don’t need or want anything fancy. I didn’t know onedrive was stand-alone software; I assumed it was just cloud storage — which I typically don’t use anyway.

    Also: why do you always react with such hostility?

    @dontbeevil outlook uses word to render... Enough said. Safari is a super hero compared to that.

    I'm old enough to actually hold ie6 in high regards. It's the best browser MS produced and was the best browser when it was released by far. It just was used way past it's expiration date giving it the bad name. I feel sad for the developers.

    @dontbeevil I'm not a Google/Apple fan boy and Firefox user since before was called Firefox so yes I curse Google regularly for their tactics of inability to support a compliant browser. Nevertheless Google has superior mail offering from a dev/admin perspective at the least.

    P.S. MS invented the software can't performance well tactic (see the Novell case) but let's not drudge up the entire history of computers.
