15 min till technical interview with IBM:
Trying to convince myself I’m not an imposter. 🙃

10 min after the interview:
I’m thinking how for the last 15 min of the interview they were pitching about how great the life at IBM is and why I should join.

    Isn’t IBM cancer tho?

    @100110111

    Is it? There are shit tons of teams and projects. Some of them will be bad, and others not. The declining revenue is worrying, but it’s a huge company and I doubt it will stay the same.

    Anyways, can you elaborate on your question?

    @yehaaw it’s just the reputation IBM has. I don’t really know. Just wanted to know if you’re aware of it… honestly, I personally wouldn’t want to work for a company with a dubious reputation and/or track record, no matter the money.

    @100110111

    Mm, I’m not sure if I’m aware of any dubious events or anything really bad in general.

    Can you tell me what happened?

    @yehaaw I can’t remember that well, actually. I’ve talked with a few people who’ve worked at IBM (as devs) and the image I got was exceedingly negative. Also all their products I’ve come across in the last decade have been pure shit. But apart from ”not being relevant anymore” and some dubious elements in their origin story (so no consequence in 2022) I haven’t heard or any dubious recent events either. It’s just that I have come to understand that it’s not a good place to work at. Guess that depends on the team tho…

    @100110111

    Hopefully the new CEO will change IBM focus.

    And, yes, everything depends on the team. I've read a shit tons of reviews on Reddit. Some love it, and some hate it. Fingers crossed.

    @yehaaw fingers crossed, indeed. Wish you the best of luck.

    IBM is a grindhouse.

    If you want lots of experience in a short amount of time and don't mind getting wrapped up in office politics, IBM is a great place.

    I'm feeling like more places are doing this because the employees are just lining up outside the door.

    Also, I'm biased. I fucking hate IBM and their shit-tier business process.

    Good luck on the job though!

    @rantsauce everything in IBM Cloud, Watson, Eclipse at least… there are some I can’t remember by name, since my memory is shit.

    IBM's existence may have something to do with them helping the the Nazi's during WW2. A lot of companies that helped the Nazi's are continuing the thrive today. Especially the chemical companies that have changed names over the years. Many of which are agriculture and pharmaceuticals. Experiments on humans in the 1940's. Still experimenting on humans today.

    IBM is a fucking cult these days. Im sure they do great quantum/AI/ML stuff, but still a cult

    @Heliarco And other big tech companies are not?

    @yehaaw I'm more of a kvass person, but yeah, I reckon it's not impossible :) Assuming you're somewhere either in the capital and the covid stays put.

    @yehaaw Oh absolutely, but IBM in particular, give that vibe. The amount of consultants i have met from there professionally are staggering, and they all seem to start from the perspective "IBM is great and the solution we are selling you is great. Whether it suits your business needs or budget is not our problem"

    I once went through 2 rounds of interviews for general IT job and in both of them all they were talking about is how great it is to work there, what would I be doing and how can I grow much there. Not a single technical question or question about my resume. Didn't get the job. What they were basing that decision of - I don't know.
