-eth18618yI gave it a week. If I could do everything I need in one week, I would keep it.
Now I use it on a daily basis, on every OS I need to, over shell in ssh if I have to.
Just love it, you'll be loved back.
(No flamewars here, it just holds the same for emacs, just use whatever suits you better, but learn one. You never know if you have to edit something in a terminal through ssh one day...) -
Yes it is. its just about preinstalled on every linux system or if its not vi is so if nothing else learn normal mode and insert mode. But if you give vim a real chance and look at the plugins they have for it it's a good chance it will replace every text editor you have

metaory15118yVim is love!
There are tons of other softwares that follow vim key bindings,
From browsers, file editors, all kind of document viewers, music players, git tools and many many more -
Beware, Once you in love with vim -> You will hate every text editor/IDE,Web browser, file manager, music player, rss reader, etc that dont have vim like keybinding or vim emulator plugin available.
Is vim text editor worth the STRESSFUL learning curve
