In my company, we create roadmaps using Microsoft PowerPoint.

If you need me, I'll be crying in the darkest corner questioning my life choices and existence.

    Yeah. Understandable

    This is sad :(

    Why not Excel?

@anux because LT is presenting to XLT.

    Excel would still be better.

    @Floydimus

I think OpenStreetMaps is pretty good for creating Road Maps.

But I think you can also easily embed Bing Maps inside of Microsoft office documents using ActiveX components... I think we should give that a try.

(-- Is what my manager probably would contribute. He is the most dangerous kind of manager: He has some technical knowledge, but no clue about correct terminology, applicability, best practices and has a deep rooted desire to be "accepted as a geek" by the engineers)

@bittersweet lol that's the most brilliant idea. Let's do it that way for next quarter. Hah!

    We do that, too

What is a good tool to use?

@asgs haven't got an opportunity to explore anything else.

Ditto, PP also here, sad ...

If you work in consulting, it would make sense. We have to make ours in PowerPoint too coz that's better for presenting it to the client.

Luckily, we have our own template we copy from every time

@RexGalilae no, I don't work in consulting and rather dislike it.

Having a template and copying it makes it even more difficult.

Didn't have the same experience with it as you. What software do you prefer instead?

I'm not talking about performing cost estimations, gantt charts and shit.

Just a pretty-looking visual diagram that speaks to MBAs

@RexGalilae I think roadmaps should always be managed in software created for this purpose.

A roadmap should not be a fixed thing. It is dynamic, it continuously changes based on experiences and insights gained. Priorities can shift.

    So: Jira, Asana, Trello, etc.

You can use Scrum sprints, Kanban — there are various ways to create long term roadmaps and short term planning.

@RexGalilae as @bittersweet said, it's a living document we have.

We have moved Jira and have build a year long backlog and keep adding stuff.

Each quarter we revisit and prioritise items to work on.
