*During a walk around to check on the users*

Dev: *Watching worker laboriously dragging pallet jack with one wobbly wheel and another wheel practically seized*

Dev: Hey that looks broken, can’t you swap it out in the maintenance building?

Worker: If you do that management will give you one that’s worse.

Dev: …This fucking company

** Worker later threw out his back, company’s corrective action was to send out notice reminding employees to stretch before doing physical tasks

This sickens to the very core.
Sometimes I think Buddhism is right, when they say that killing is allowed, to reduce overall suffering.

@HitWRight Buddhism causes the Chinese workers to shut up and put up with horrible conditions. I would say, we need another solution than religion to hang management.

@HitWRight Buddhism says that? I thought it was all about non violence

In my country this would cause the company to pay a huge fine plus the recovery for that person.

I guess you don't have trade unions in your vicinity?

@anux @p100sch Just recently started reading on it, but nothing dictates that you are ņot supposed to avoid harming for greater good.

    Good grief, where is this?

@stop Same here but all companies pay for insurance to cover this case so it doesn’t really sting any individual company hard enough to make a difference.

@msdsk We do but they are usually not very effective. Also you can’t sue an employer for negligence causing injury as an employee since 1910 in Canada in exchange for workman’s compensation. (Unless for cases of extreme negligence).

@boombodies but here in germany the insurance, which is mandatory, doesn't pay if the employer did nothing to prevent it.
For example: the coffeemachine ignites and one coworker is hurt. Later the insurance finds out that the machine was not checked during the check for electrics and was not maintained.

@HitWRight oh well. Watch out world. 😁

@stop That’s a nice way to incentivize prevention. Unfortunately here the only thing that occurs is if you have lots of injuries your insurance rates go up. Which isn’t a big deal for large companies who can afford teams of specialists to cover up workplace injuries and large numbers of low risk office employees to bloat their hours worked without injury to lower their premiums so they can get away with abusing their blue collar workers.

@Demolishun All my posts are from Canada yes. I was thinking of applying to some jobs down there, might be tough to convince my wife though. Are there specific areas you’d recommend?
  • 1
@Demolishun Cheers! Thanks very much for the information!

@boombodies > "Are there specific areas you’d recommend?"

Being a bit bias, I enjoy mid-Missouri country livin' (middle corridor between St. Louis and Kansas City). If I had to move, my choices would be Texas or Tennessee (Southern folks are great). Give me a place where I can hunt, fish, piss out my backdoor without a neighbor in site, I'm happy.

@boombodies comparing US to Canada is too broad. Both countries have massively broken systems at the federal level. It depends a lot on your company, local government, and community as to how your experience is.
