willol13898yUbuntu is very good !
Intellij is clearly the top IDE for Java. For themes, there's Darcula or MaterialUI (which is a plugin).
About your run buttons problem : you need to create a run config, you should have a "run..." somewhere in the menu bar -
@willol
I tried to make a config, but i wasn't sure what jar file to use? This also surprises me quite a bit that as automated as IntelliJ is, you need to manually set up configurations, which I can't find much help on and which I never saw in the document about changes when switching from eclipse to IntelliJ.
Thanks for the themes suggestions! I'll have to look into them! -
monr0e12528y@agentwolf44 it really doesn't matter what OS you use. Use the one you already use as a daily driver, that way you're not messing around trying to find some obscure OS feature all the time.

@monr0e
Well, having little experience with Linux I wanted to get used to it, problem is I only have one device, which I also game on and run tons of other programs on, so I haven't replaced it with any Linux yet -
monr0e12528y@agentwolf44 then don't. Stick to what you know, and buy some cheap netbook or something, whack eOS or Trisquel on that.

if you want to code in any language and not much thinking how it will be in. IDEA ultimate will show you how it's work. and it will work with kotlin too. java with kotlin it was magic in any suggestion
Anyone have any good suggestions for Java IDEs/Editors? I'm using Eclipse right now, and since I'm a student I can get IntelliJ Ultimate free, except I can't figure out why the run/debug buttons are greyed out...
Also would be cool to suggest good dark themes for whichever program you guys mention. And which OS would be good to use? I'm thinking Ubuntu right now
Plz don't hate for these dumb questions, I'm only a first year xD
