So many capacitors and complex wiring. Looks shitty, like something I would make.
-
I'm unsure about how exactly this works. Is it just flip-flops whose states are indicated by the vacuum tubes?
-
@Ranchonyx imagine like flipping a switch in an array for one bit so the circuit that it feeds electric has that value as input heh
-
Btw I was prompted by this repeat rant to look up what that circuit was again
It actually isn’t ram -
I wonder how many people thought these were beer kegs (or a few seconds later, a set of IC's) when they first looked at this..
-
I half expected to see seething hatred of this post due to the tag I added. I’m happy to see that, so far, my expectation was nullified.
-
@AvatarOfKaine Can you send me a source link? I didn’t take the time to fact check it. For all anyone (including me) knew, it was what the poster I got it from claimed it was.
-
@stackodev well in 1957 boomers would be like 15 years old so this isn't their generation's work!
-
@AlgoRythm Well, one could also argue that a 15 year old boomer in 1957 was going to go out and do greater things with this tech than the generation that invented it ever thought possible. That’s really what I was referring to with this. My dad, an electronics engineer, was born in 1943, so was 14 when this was made. The stuff he built was all an improvement upon it.
-
@stackodev Exciting that we're seeing similar beginnings in the field of quantum computing today
-
@AvatarOfKaine Not sure what you mean. Maybe it was someone else but this is the very first time I’ve posted this anywhere.
-
@AvatarOfKaine Yup. Went through all 431 of my rants and didn’t find any where I had posted this. Great scene from MiB.
It was 1957 and this was a 1 byte ram memory module for an IBM Mainframe.
