Indeed. That's a big surprise. Usually they just ghost you.

@nitnip That term is getting more and more prevalent and not just in job applications.

Doesn't mean they're better than you. Just means they're better at interviewing or people felt like they wanted to work around that person more because of personality, look, whatever. So many things other than skills are involved in these processes.

Getting your first jobs is difficult because you don't have much of a story to tell and your resume immediately looks light and people just pass on it. If they look at it they'll try to use your small background as leverage to pay you less, run away from that if you can afford it. Know your worth. I repeat: know. your. worth.

Juniors may think "WoW Google engineers must be geniuses". After some time you'll figure out that lots of them are actually very flawed and tons of bromance gets in the way. This industry works mostly with network, so develop it and leave loosers behind.

Getting your foot in the door is the difficult part but then you'll develop your network and won't have to deal with cold applying anymore.

Someone who fits better is someone who accepted the same job with more knowledge for less money. You can just feel sorry for him :'D

The good thing is, you don't have to work for a company which has low standards in communication.
Don't give up. You'll certainly find a better suiting place to work at.

@glemiere (reply part 1) "because of personality, look, whatever." Ha.. that reminds me: two of my classmates at university were abysmal at coding.. they would write repeated, dirty code, they wouldn't ever consult documentation. Then guess what? These guys got hired as consultants because they had a prettier boy band babyface and excelled at fooling people and pulling fake smiles. They didn't even break a sweat - they just got hired right after graduating, while I applied for jobs for at least a year after graduating.

My worth indeed. I am more disciplined and persevering under the face of hardship than most people. I have studied computer science more in depth than most people that I've worked with. I will definitely state the maximum salary margin next time they ask for a salary estimate, as I did a pretty good job at that already.

@glemiere (reply part 2) Yeah.. the industry works mostly with network, I know.. I've worked with self-proclaimed 'we hire geniuses' companies who can't even perform basic troubleshooting on a MacBook, who talk bad about their friends behind their backs. They are disgusting and immoral, completely unlike me (for I am pure and truth-telling, something which they seem to be allergic to).

I don't do well with people, to be honest, not that I actively try to get them to dislike me, but I'll do my best.

@CaptainRant I was in a similar spot 6 weeks ago. Got 2 rejections (but in nicer tone) and now I work at a great place with great working conditions. 😊
