In the pandemic era i have become allergic to delivery fees. Fucking $5 to get pizza delivered? Fuck you I'll take the 15 minutes it takes to go down to the damn restaurant! Pisses me off sometimes.

Maybe it's because i enjoy getting out more since I've started working from home, but tbh i don't even care, because paying $11 to have someone else bring your groceries to you just makes me irate.

For me it depends on parking (and my mood). There are some areas here with absolutely terrible parking, and I just dun wanna.

Get doordash, some places have free delivery if you use Doordash

@TeachMeCode doordash has more than just delivery fees, they always end up getting you!

@arcsector there is still a fee but it’s less than most other fees. It’s still your best bet when ordering food.

Well, would you make a pizza to someone and bring it to them for 11$? Sounds very cheap if you think about it that way.

You still have to pay for the pizza itself, I'm not sure what you're getting at...

Delivery Fees are in my opinion better than giving tips...

If the restaurant uses them like intended.

Delivery fee was meant to be the cost for delivery - it's not uncommon that a delivery guy has to use it's own car, pay for fuel in advance etc.

Thx to home isolation / corona the number of deliveries exploded.

I know a few restaurants here who have hired 2 additional drivers as they are getting too swamped. And I'm talking about regular town with roughly 150.000 people....

The thing with tips depends on country / culture... But I heard many times that people here in Germany don't tip.

Which means the delivery guy has no additional income...

Hence I think a delivery fee is absolutely okay - if it's used as intended.

What really irks me is that menu prices on DoorDash/Uber/PostMates/etc. are often 20-30% higher than in-restaurant prices.

The reason makes sense: the service charges the restaurant a percentage of the bill, and restaurants have tiny profit margins. But the idea of paying that much (plus delivery! And fees! And tip!) for the convenience of not driving to the restaurant is just too much.

@Root And you cant use coupons, cant take advantage of deals, and if your food comes incorrect, you just get your money back but you're still hungry!

@arcsector And if it’s incorrect/missing too often, they stop refunding.

That coupons/deals bit is really frustrating. Same with the inability to ask for something simple, like a side of rice, or some freaking taco sauce.

@Root oh and forget asking for extra of anything without paying for it! Side of bbq sauce? .75$ please!
