Agsinst that petition because I sure as hell don't want to hand out my phone number.
-
@rEaL-jAsE can doesn't mean have to.
But then, @sariel what does multi factor auth do anything with anti-spam? Request a 2fa code every time you interact with site? Doesn't fix a crap. -
sariel85343y@melezorus34 I agree, but MFA with SMS is notoriously insecure.
It's so easy to spoof a phone number a child can do it. -
sariel85343y@melezorus34 if an app is used it makes it a tiny bit more difficult for these script junkies.
-
@sariel This is just an example but all server-side 2fa code generators are essentially bot parts. https://npmjs.com/package/node-2fa/
You can use the secret generated in the site and get codes from the package.
Bot 1 - 2 Captcha for now -
irene33943y@Fast-Nop I would be fine with an OTP Authenticator app type version. No phone number. Like Authy.
-
@irene Not even that because I don't want to use an app. I'm on the browser version.
-
irene33943y@Fast-Nop You use an Authenticator app for other websites like banking or Amazon though right?
-
@irene For banking, yes, but that's not against spam bots, it's because there's real money involved.
I don't want to fumble out the phone for each and every website or forum I visit. Even worse if it were one app per website, that would be stupid. -
@Fast-Nop
> Replying to "Even worse..."
Bro, OTP's don't work that way, but hell, you are right. It would be way fucking worse.
Thank god only Steam does closed-secret authenticator. -
Any platform which forces 2FA goes downhill, solution to spamming is simple, Shadow Ban them if all their posts get downvotes.
-
@theabbie it's important that no end users know about this, otherwise you'll make a worse version of stackoverflow.
Petition to implement a 2FA upon registration to deter bots and spam accounts.
