Happy Birthday Linux

Linux's development is the equivalent of a seemingly simple Sidequest in an RPG that went wild really quick.

@rutee07 "memory i like to forget" Why?

Another nerd trying to make his own OS, ROFL.

Not professional, not portable, and will never support anything other than parallel ATA harddisks?

Super lame, this will never take off.

@Demolishun or just a big company behind it(fuchsia)

@Demolishun There is no reason to assume that a rewrite would be better - that's a common dev illusion.

Actually, it would likely be worse because Linux was born when being a dev still was geeky and required dedication.

@Demolishun Sounds like you might want to check out BSD?

    @Fast-Nop BSD... I feel conflicted.

@IntrusionCM However, BSD is server only in practice - except for people who hate Arch for its ease of use and hardware support.

@Fast-Nop whenever I come in contact with BSD, I feel alienated.

    It's not bad.

    It's not good either.

It's this thing that I cannot hate nor love, but it always feels like something missing... And are they still using CVS?

@IntrusionCM I tried to get some impression of it for desktop use, and I concluded that the BSD community doesn't give a fuck. For that use case, it's behind where Linux was a whopping 20 years ago.

That's where you end up when you remove the so-called "bloat" in Linux.

Here a nice video how fucked up BSD is for desktop use even in a VM. It starts out reasonably but then goes downhills: https://youtube.com/watch/...

    > won't be big and professional like gnu

Well, that worked out well for you.
