    @Root I imagine he's talking about the analysing every image for CP

    @epse isn't that an up coming (and stupid, and also by EU standards illegal) law that soon has to apply to anyone?
  • 0
    @Tonnoman0909 I'm not aware of that, but could be
  • 6
    @epse I heard about that. It’s creepy and invasive, no matter the reasoning. And in the same breath, they say “Apple means Privacy.”

    Ugh.

    @epse I checked, sounds like it:

    As an EU citizen this seems fucked up to say the least.

    @Tonnoman0909 ah alright, time to donate to the pirate party again it seems

    @Tonnoman0909 No. The EU wants to get at providers, not at end devices.

    @Fast-Nop don't know which option would be worse

    @Fast-Nop I think it also seeks collaboration from messaging vendors too, as to provide access through their encryption, including the messaging apps from Apple I guess. But maybe I'm wrong.

    @Tonnoman0909 That's still about online stuff, not scanning on your local end device.

    Time to become ISP, buy ASN and BGP your own traffic.

    Won't somebody think of the children?!

    @vane and host your own messaging service and convince everyone to use that and then ignore the legal threats from governments
  • 1
    @epse well I’m waiting for messaging service where your messages never leave your phone. Maybe I’ll write one some day.
  • 0
    @vane the messages obviously need to leave your phone to exist, but some peer to peer messagers exist. The big downside of course is that if both parties are not simultaneously online, messages will just not get delivered

    @Linux yeah but I need to port it to ios or desktop lol

    @Linux I know, but getting people to join yet another platform and aiming under the data hoover radar... Tricky

    @epse

    Bridges

    @Linux yeah but then you're back where you started, with the messages in the hands of some other provider who will probably listen to governments asking for data

    Matrix is kinda cool, but their handling of metadata is apparently kinda shit. Also their clients are all kind of a shitshow.

    I wish somebody took Telegram's clients and just replaced their core with Matrix's stuff :/

    @endor

    Element is slowly getting to an OK level, and there is several OK clients aswell
