Microsoft: Here's are simple to use Office suite which works offline and online with powerful features.

Google: Our suite is FREE. FREE. FREE. It's shitty, broken, and works only online.
If you want to use it offline, you can go fuck yourself. But hey! It's free.

In future, I'm not surprised Google will create a Desktop version by using WebView .

@johnmelodyme eh... Already exists. Tried installing Google Docs into Chrome?

I mean, I've never really needed any features not provided by Docs...

I find Markdown good enough for most things. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Worry not, for Microsoft is eagerly following in Google's footsteps

@Root I wish I could use markdown for everything. I'd really like if markdown and latex had a baby.

@Root I agree. Markdown and latex are good enough though

@neeno I would say latex is the best.

@johnmelodyme meh, I have a love/hate relationship with it. On one hand you can do pretty much anything with it, on the other it's syntax is shit, editors are mostly shit and it has a high af learning curve.

If there were a way to combine markdown's simplicity with latex's powerfulness it would be heaven.

    @neeno Make it!

@Root I'd love to, it's a project I have in my "backlog", but idk if I'm the right person for that. I don't think I know latex enough to develop a competitor to it, most of the time I'm just copy-pasting shit from the internet until it renders correctly.

EDIT: I also have some other more important stuff on my plate right now, so I guess it's gonna have to wait anyway :p

@neeno Well, I looked into LaTeX editor OSS options, but didn't find the convenient one. So it's that bad now and there is still no such thing?

I wished, there was another "Office" alternative which works offline, implements most of the Microsoft "OpenDocument" format features and is not only gratis, but also free as in "Libre"...

@vintprox afaik no. The best I could find is overleaf, but it's an online editor and IMO the writing experience could be a bit better.

I use Notion, which is based on markdown. Most science people and students I know love it. I think both Microsoft and Google docs ought to die a slow death and make room for modern shit.

@hashedram don't you know that those docs are mere XMLs underneath?
