What do you guys think about 'contempt culture' in development?

I always understood the 'language wars' as a running gag. I like C# and therefore mock Java devs, C++ devs mock me for using the evil Microsoft curse that is .NET, everyone mocks JS, etc.
While I do certainly think that there are people out there that really think their language is the sole holy grail, I'd bet that the largest majority has no evil intent when joking about other languages.
Then again, I'm pretty young and new to the whole scene, so I wouldn't know.
