Sometimes I have this same problem the answer is a lot of the stuff that gets built is kind of redundant guy
If you’re looking for a hobby build find some use by studying something else
The mindset is what can I make easier or what can I solve with my app
Here’s a nice example to think of
Look up the economic observatory project
Lot of nice visualizations there for example -
@MadMadMadMrMim I guess I more meant some of the app designs I've seen on there. My problem is I know what looks bad but don't know how to make it look good lol

@MalwareManiac oh, UI design ?
hehe that is kind of usually going to based off one of two things, what makes use easier, or sad to say what other people have already figured out that is useful.
What kind of app are you designing ? -
I forgot the name of the app but there was a famous app on Android play store which was just a blank space. How about making abstract art type of apps? Like, you make a UI and let people figure out what it is or does.

There are some interesting Talks about UX and UI-Design on YT. They might tell you what to focus on.
They often recommend pretty interesting tools (Like homogenous color pickers, Design Tools, etc).
The whole designing is really about either creativity or just "inspiration". Try a few designs in own projects and you'll be able to iterate on them for a long time. Each project, no matter how boring it seems, is a valuable copy&paste source to save you hours in later projects.

I'm personally feel similar though. I'm not really creative and didn't put much work in what I recommended above either. I "can" do frontend and some basic Android apps, but always warn that it'll look ugly. I mainly focus on backend/low-level stuff and consider my basic frontend/ux knowledge as just a bonus.

I'm slowly realizing that my ability to build apps does me know good when I can't design and figure out what to build :/
How do you even learn the creativity I see on places like behance?!
