I don't fucking understand this. Why the hell does every website has a autoplay video in their website?

I don't want to see your fucking video when I open your article, I am fucking trying to read something.

Because sadly they pay for the site. Ads in all forms are complete anti-patterns, but they have to be for anyone to notice them. Even an autoplay counts as a view so the site owner can say to advertisers "We get X views on average". Sad, but until the web finds a new, user friendly funding model, it'll be around.

Install an adblocker like ABP, if it does not block it automatically you can add your own filter.

Adblockers are actually resourse/call blockers + element hiding tools ;)

Adblock is my saving grace from this.

@mundo03 @soolkiki adblock does not block this

@Artemix what you are saying is not true. ABP does have a business model which involves making advertisers follow an Ad criteria (acceptable ads), around 90% of websites in the programm are there for free. Which makes sense, you can not have a free web without ads or subscription.

Ublock blocks everything, which is not really helping the free web.

Plus, you can disable acceptable ads in ABP and block everything there too. Use ABP, come to the free web.

@marceliwac Half-hidden videos sound even worse.

For adblocking I just use the /etc/hosts thingy.
