    @petergriffin @Root oh? This one I heard for the first time omg...

    I think Digital Ocean is nice but I don't have much to say in this regard anyway.

    I mostly use Vultr (although I often hop providers when I find a cheaper one, started on DO back when they were the cheap option).

    Just checked Hetzner's prices and I think I might switch again. I'll just have to see if hosting stuff on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean affects my bandwidth at all.

    You mentioned AWS as an option, but honestly, it's overkill and way too expensive for personal or hobbyist stuff. I use it at work, though. It's fine for big companies with lots of money to burn.

    @EmberQuill Sounds like AWS is not a good Option.

    depends, i either use vultr if i need a 0-24 box, or heroku if i need a (smarter) lambda, and vercel if its a JAM app

    @Root a contrarian!

    @johnmelodyme it depends. AWS is great for larger companies or big projects because it ends up being worth the cost when you need to run a lot of managed services (Lambda, RDS databases, networking infrastructure, S3 buckets, etc.). But if it's for a small personal project that just needs a few VMs, it ends up being one of the most expensive options.

    @EmberQuill if you're looking for a cheap option I'd recommend trying Contabo

    I think that the cheapest would be Contabo, otherwise I'd go for Digital Ocean, based on my previous good experience with them

    I've always worked with DO, go bluehost if you want to be contacted by hindi with less than average english for support and to be upgraded on php versions without being noticed so you get an emergency because your laravel projects won't run

    On premise data center.

    Want serverless functions? OpenFaaS, self-hosted (is this still serverless? Lol)

    Want s3 buckets? MinIO, self-hosted.

    Want an entire cloud platform? OpenStack, self-hosted.

    Do absolutely everything yourself motherfucker. Raspberry Pi cluster all day.

    Failing that, DO is pretty good. AWS is great, but it costs $$$. Cheers.

    @noobrants rpi cluster ? For my IOT project I use that already...
