Why does devRant show I have 6 unread notifications?

I cleared the cache. Even downloaded the mobile app to check whether it was only a problem with the web-app.

No, that number is still there. The mobile app claims it is the comments section. I scrolled down to 2019 ( no, I haven't been all that active ) and still no unread notifications.

Why didn't you think of putting up an 'unread tab' when you were creating all those tabs on the mobile app? Please add an unread tab 🙏
Also, the read and unread markers in the dark mode could have a little more darker contrast difference in the dark mode. I don't know about light mode, because I don't use it ( but I could check once I get notifications from this rant; I'm turning light mode on for a brief while to check this )

I haven't had unread-anxiety before, but I guess I have it now ( not really though )

    Check on the web version, also, uninstall and reinstall

    @Eklavya it didn't, unfortunately. Your comments only added to the existing counter ( and decremented when I opened the notification )

    @theabbie it started on the web actually. I installed the app to see if it was a back end issue and it indeed is.

    @shine Have you logged in after a long time? There was bot spamming few months ago which messed with notification counters for everyone.

    @theabbie aha, then that's probably it. Yes, I haven't logged in for a while.

    Was there a suggested workaround for people who suffered that issue? Or did you adapt to that stupid number on your counter?

    @shine It was fixed for everyone, somehow,

    Found one, they cleared the cache

    @theabbie thanks for the pointers. unfortunately, clearing the mobile app's cache didn't work.

    Its unlikely that would be related to the mobile app's cache because this counter is on the web app too. It has to be coming from the backend. And I don't think clearing the mobile app's cache would propagate to the back end ( if it did, that would be bad design too )

    Also, I noticed that the notifications in the older posts were ++s. The mobile app indicates that my notifications are comments ( with the dot on the comments tab ). I don't know if that is related though.

    @shine the notifs list only includes the past 100... I think it is.... notifications, if you have an unread one prior to that then then unread counter gets stuck.

    On your next notif, press the "clear all notifications" button on the notifs screen, which will also clear historic ones you may not be able to see.

    This button is only visible when there's an unread notification in the list.

    Otherwise send a DELETE request to the notifications endpoint using the APi once you're logged in.👀

    @shine i edited it ^^
    Here's a bonus notif 😏

    Oh, I didn't know that. But then again, I didn't have 100+ notifications when I logged in recently. I had under 30, I think.

    But for unread-anxiety's sake, I will try and clear all the notifications in the app.
    Though I don't want to part with the notifications since that is the only place I know who ++d my rants :(

    \o/ it worked!

    And it didn't delete my notifications ( like I thought it would ). It only cleared the counter.

    Now I can stop being anxious about my unreads.

    Thank you so much @COD4

    Mine is also stuck at three. Tried in vain

    @amrit2022 go ahead and clear the notifications when you get your next notification.

    @COD4's suggestion worked for me. Try and see if it'll work for you.

    @shine that's not an O 😅

    @amrit2022 here's a notif. Don't click on it, but press the clear all button instead.

    thanks to @shine and @COD4, that worked flawlessly.

    nice debate

    @C0D4 noted. maybe devRant should use a monospaced font that distinguishes between an O and 0 😅
