One thing I've noticed about devRant is the ratio of web dev/mobile dev posts to database/architecture/big data dev posts. There's A LOT of you web peeps out there, and not enough data dudes, which I guess justifies my constant demand, salary and lack of competition. Just an observation.

Big data is quite interesting but I haven't found any interesting resources on the topic. Do you have any advices?

@aul12 I myself do more business intelligence and data warehouse architecture. However, Big Data dev is still finding itself as the demand that businesses once thought they had has been reshuffled. Companies that have dbs with millions of records that once thought they required tools like a HADOOP infrastructure have come to realize that the amount of data vs the cost makes no sense. Only SERIOUS data consumers such as a twitter (for example) can truly leverage the power of a system like HADOOP or Horton Works for example. So to answer your question, I'd say look into Hadoop as a solution to understand infrastructure, HIVE for SQL, NoSQL as a plus, and truly understand the demands for Big Data before getting involved. If you're looking to get into data dev, I would recommend BI Dev along with knowledge of Data Science with Python 😉

Or many of you big data folks don't have much too rant about cuz your life is easy.

I think timis rant talks about DBAs and not big data people, am I wrong?

@mundo03 my rant talks about BI/DBA/Big Data/Data Science. And like I said, it's just an observation more than anything.

If something in our world is going to cause rants, it's web development. Luckily, no more web dev for me for a while :)

I'm mostly an application developer but sometimes do data stuff. I'm with you, there's a pretty big skew...
