Just get a USB3 ssd drive, out everything there.
Just built a 512GB M.2 usb3 drive, works st 8Gb per second because I did not get the fastest drive due to money reasons.

That is intended to be used on my GF Mac, works fine.

One must be really stupid to buy a laptop for dev that's essentially unsuitable for Docker work, VMs, large datasets, etc.
