Not all people read the docs before posting though, did your post specify that the docs weren't clear?
-
@alexbrooklyn it wasn't my post luckily. It's the concept. I usually assume that if somebody spent time to share his doubts...it's useless to remind "read the doc"...maybe he didn't feel like he needed. That's not the point. The point is giving an answer rather than a sermon..."look at this point in the doc xxx it solve your problem" it's a valid answer.
So write an useful answer, and after just go to devrant and rant about morons who don't read the doc :-)))) -
Deterring people who "didn't have the time to read the docs" (aka lazy assholes) from SO is a major point in maintaining platform quality because pandering to lazy suckers will only attract even more of them.
-
jaylord4544yColorful rant, straight from the heart.
Supplying a hint is faster than referring to the docs -
@Fast-Nop kind of agree with you. But in that particular post, somebody else replied, mentioning the doc, and giving a detailed explanation. I value that more....SO is also a repository of questions and answers...quality of answers is also important...
-
@willcandy Of course answering such shit questions is "helpful" for the asking person. What I'm saying is that being helpful in such cases is the wrong thing to do. SO is intended as Q&A site, not as helpdesk.
If the asking person has not made any valuable contributions otherwise (good questions or answers), such a question should not only be downvoted and closed, but also the asking person be banned. -
@Fast-Nop if people were quick to help one another instead of quick to down vote, belittle, and ban, the world would be a little better place.
-
@Fast-Nop that's why I use Quora for spiritual support and SO for technical support
-
620hun83704yThe best approach is preemptively listing the sections of the docs people would point you to, so that they know you actually read those already.
-
Totally with you - try asking a question on the Arduino or Linux stack exchange sites - moderators are fuckweeds as well
-
If the docs aren't clear and the project is open source I usually just read the source code. Code never lies!
I hate when a retard fuckstick user on FuckOverflow gives answer like this:
"I suggest a read of the documentation instead of only hacking around"
IF I'M ASKING A QUESTION IT'S BECAUSE THE fucking doc wasn't clear to me, it was longer than the dick of the horse that fucked your mother, or simply I didn't have the fucking time and I hoped somebody would help me out, you dumb fatherfucker
