At least you're able to rewrite it. The norm with such projects is being told to "just make it work with the minimal changes possible, we can't justify a rewrite."

I was required to maintain a website with an extensive Perl backend. It had a LOT of issues. So I ended up wrapping the Perl code into a PHP site running Joomla. I do not envy the next maintainer of that site. Poor bastards.

Rewriting and redesigning from scratch is always the best situation to be in, imho.
