Client : We need this feature

Team lead : Sure, we will deliver this to you in 3 days.

Meanwhile Teamlead forgets to work on it or assign it to anyone in the team while he was surrounded by many other tasks.

Client on 2nd day morning : What's the progress on that feature?

Teamlead to Client: It's going fine, we will deliver it to you on time.

Meanwhile, Teamlead to a junior developer in the team (on 2nd day afternoon): We have this priority feature where we need to finish it in one day and deliver it tomorrow!

Junior Dev to Teamlead : This is too much of work to complete it in 1 day, it atleast needs 3 days!

Teamlead to Junior dev : I don't care, can't talk, busy, just complete the work and deal with the client, bye.

And the Junior dev continues to struggle where he is unknown of the fact that the task actually was of 3 days but just because the Teamlead forgot to do the task and also to assign the task early, he is in trouble!

Wow that is toxic. It is not agile and no sprint planning? No estimation? Lol looks like you need to find some other company

@Devnergy My company has various clients and it's kind of micro management with all. This is the story of one of the client, I am with a good client!

Usually it's time sensitive when it's still your part of the work to do but when it is turned over to the client to do the testing or sign-offs for approval or billing, the time sensitivity magically disappears.

@Devnergy wow, that's great. I knew I was getting slower as time goes by, but you're astounding. From that little bit of information you managed to deduce:
    1. That this happens on every ocasion, so that there is no sprint planning or estimation
    2. That this is company wide, not isolated to that project or lead

    Wow

@DonnyQuest being surrounded by many other tasks gave him away.
Sadly, good engineers are often offered the role of lead, regardless of organizational skills. Add to that more responsibilities than he can handle, and you get described scenario.

My main question here is why is he so preocupied, which enabled this to happen in the first place?
Is he bad at delegating? Doesn't seem like it, he delegated the whole responsibility of a small task to a junior.
Is he understaffed? Something else? Is there a PM in this srory, or is it also lead's responsibility?

Well, time for junior to look around for a new job. Where he’s respected as a human being.
I’m happy to be in a team where if leads mess up, they admit it and deal with the consequences themselves.
In exchange, I’m more than 100% happy to help them out with it. If you treat people with respect they’ll go great length to help you out, and everyone will be happier with this.

@eo2875 at my place, change it to stakeholder and have random meeting invites 2 days in advance to demo something.

Like FFS, if you want a demo, minimum 7 days notice and actually ask, don't assume it's ready.

    At least alcohol is cheap...
