@d-fanelli they're talking about whether the design or art does work, not whether it needs work to create.

@d-fanelli read the quote again. This means that the statue itself doesn't have to work. A better analogy is how a painting is to be observed, while design should lend itself to the user and direct their attention. It has a task to accomplish.
