    Cheers 🥂

sipping Ameretto mixed with korean plum juice/soda.

@rooter Redbreast whiskey with fresh lemon juice and some truvia (sweetener).
  • 2
I only know bourbons. Someone educate me on sours please.
  • 3
    ^this please, we need answers
  • 3
@Root i read whiskey as turkey...redbreast turkey lol
  • 3
    @Nosferatu @Ranchonyx It’s a drink recipe. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whiskey (or bourbon) with lemon/lime/yuzu/etc. juice, simple syrup (or other sweetener), and often some flavorings (bitters).

I was amazed at how well this (basically lemonade) went with whiskey.

Drinking vodka has one advantage and that’s a weaker hangover. But it’s absolute torture to drink it. I often tense my abdominal muscles to keep the vomit down when i drink it due to how it messes with my taste buds and stomach acids.
  • 5
@d-fanelli I’ve never even had a hangover. One of the perks of being Irish, I guess 😊

Vodka also doesn’t bother me at all. Drank most of a 750 of goose by myself and all that happened the following morning was my stomach felt a little touchy — and had a new girlfriend :). We had some cheap tacos to fix the touchiness.

Also, I don’t recommend goose. It isn’t as nice and strangely makes me sad. Tito’s and Deep Eddy’s are tasty and make me happy instead. Cheaper, too!

Anyway, try your vodka with some zakuski?

Sigh my majority Roman background should stick with wine if there’s no vodka left. I’m 1/4 Irish lol but my last attempt at rum gave me a fever the next day. I had the chills and felt so weak that moving off the couch was a challenging adventure. I’m unaware of any Eastern European background in spite of handling vodka lol. Yes it was rum that smashed me but it’s a brown liquor like whiskey so whiskey should likely have the same effect. But brown liquor tastes so amazing and the warm belly feeling can’t be beat! Vodka tastes like monster bile mixed with dead kittens
  • 3
@d-fanelli Sounds like you need better vodka!

Also, chills from rum? You were probably sick already, poor thing.

    Anyway, try some posca?
That should help with any acid issues. It’s apparently quite tasty, too, if you like wine and acidic tang. I’m absolutely a fan of the latter.
  • 2
@Root thanks! I’ll try that! Btw the rum was Captain Morgan’s spiced rum. I mixed it with vodka but got sick the next day. Yes perhaps the rum had no influence and i caught the flu from elsewhere. I’m open to that. Btw I loved the mascot, nothing beats having a pirate on the bottle lol.

    @Root oh Redbreast is good

I normally like Whisky sour but am too lazy to squeeze a lemon or I dont have any aroound. So I just use Sinalco instead. (An insanely better version of Fanta)

@heyheni I kinda want to try this now since I have some amaretto around for coffe...
  • 3
@JFK422 😃 head to your local Japanese Korean store 👍

Get japanese Calpis too. Togheter with the amaretto the korean plum juice and the calpis it creates a unique color in the glass. White translucent with red/brown core. And you don't taste the alcohol really. 😄

@Root sounds amazing. I'm gonna go shopping tomorrow.

@Root you drank close to 750 ml? Lol even half of that makes me stumble around like the walkers in return of the Jedi that would trip and stumble over the logs that the ewoks rolled out. My legs are long and thin so all that’s needed is two lasers attached to my mouth lol. I drink Smirnoff, not sure what your opinion is on that
  • 0
Well vodka does cheer me up but I’ll look into Tito’s. I had a half pint of Smirnoff an hr ago and im scared to even stand lol. 750 ml would keep me in bed the next day ordering Advil pills from DoorDash bc I can’t drive with the hangover pounding my cranium with a mallet
  • 1
@d-fanelli I’ve had Smirnoff before, but not in any quantity, so I couldn’t say. Sorry!
  • 1
Bought Svedka to try something new, and it’s way better than Smirnoff tastewise. It feels totally clean without the weird grainy stuff found in Smirnoff that makes my stomach turn lol. Swedish vodka, btw. I thought vodka is only from Russia
  • 1
Wow just half a pint and my muscles feel dead. That means it’s working. I feel drunk and happy without feeling sick. Smirnoff gives the same euphoria but damn does it destroy my stomach, luckily the euphoria numbs the pain lol

Wow! This was the best liquor for my horrible stomach, but I miss the warm belly feeling the smirnoff gave it. But still, as long as the dread of vomiting is mitigated, I’m ok with this. Yes even tomato sauce agitates my stomach and I at times vomit if I lay down incorrectly. Sigh. It’s no surprise digestive cancer runs in my family 😱. My tract sucks and hopefully no growths will destroy it

@d-fanelli There are vodkas from all over 😅

Svedka is a grain (wheat) alcohol; perhaps try others? The source of starch makes a pretty big difference in flavors.

Ketel One is a wheat vodka (and pretty good). Grey Goose and Absolut are also made from wheat. If you want something different (and like gin) try Reyka. It’s an Icelandic barley vodka. Pretty ginny flavor to me, so I wasn’t a fan, but it was good quality.

I’ve always preferred corn vodkas. Didn’t make the connection until just now. 🤔

Ostensibly the mash makes no difference as it’s all distilled away into pure ethanol, but in practice that’s so not true.
  • 1
@Root thanks! I’ll take anything that doesn’t damage my stomach and svedka does so well with making my brain wasted without wasting my esophagus or what’s left of it

@Root You’re into Tito’s? Seems to be rather popular. I’m looking to give it a go, but most important, what’s the taste like? Trying new liquor is a daunting experience for me bc bad liquor on the rocks is nasty and I don’t mix.
  • 1
@d-fanelli Tito’s and Deep Eddy’s are my two favorite vodkas.

Tito’s has more flavor than Deep Eddy’s, but both have very little. They make me happy 😊

(They are both corn vodkas, though, and you seem to like wheat more.)

By contrast, Grey Goose makes me sad. I don’t know why.
  • 0
@Root then I’m staying away from grey goose. Why drink to be sad? Thanks, I’m definitely trying Tito’s. Btw it’s not that I like grain, I simply got used to it. Vodka tastes terrible but it’s less stress on the body than other liquors, at least I think it is
  • 0
@Root wow I just found out smirnoff is corn based. Just had some and it does make me feel happier...but I worked out earlier so it could be endorphins from the exercise mixing in with the ethanol. But damn it tastes nasty, maybe Tito’s is better quality and tastes cleaner than the stomach bombing Smirnoff

Well alcohol is a drug. It’s legal but that doesn’t take away from it being a chemical that affects how the brain works when it’s in you. But I never experienced sadness or depression from it, it would always raise my happiness! But people vary in how their bodies break things down. I can’t handle brown liquor, it makes me sick as a dog
  • 0
For example alcohol makes me super hungry! If you find cheese wrappers and chicken or pork bones all over my floor you know what I drank the other night
  • 1
@Root Wow! Just tried Tito’s and it’s AMAZING! It feels so clean without all the extra nasty sand I felt with the Smirnoff and my stomach is intact. Got plenty of mozzarella sticks to binge on, but I just lost weight just from binging less and I kinda want to keep it down. I have maybe 4 large packs of them lol
  • 0
With Smirnoff I would set off a reflex and vomit after more than 6 chugs without taking a rest. Even when I kept it at bay lol the nausea stuck around. Smirnoff is garbage
  • 1
@d-fanelli damn, that is a lot of fried cheese 😂

    Glad you liked the Tito’s!
  • 0
It’s refrigerated sticks, not fried or breaded. Take cold mozzarella cheese like what you find on a pizza and roll it into a stick :)

I’m so glad I’m not married bc my wife would find “clues” that I was drinking by going through my YouTube history and finding recent power ranger clips. Sorry but megazord fights are the best ever when drunk lol

Wish I had more to numb the pain caused by my infected foot 😭 it’s a bad fungal infection, “athlete’s foot”
  • 1
Ahhh damn I feel so good, thank you mr Tito for inventing Tito’s and thank you @Root for suggesting this! Never had a drink that cranks euphoria as high as this one! I better enjoy it now while i still can lol
  • 1
Just finished a mixture of Tito’s and grain vodka, and grain alcohol seems to relax and weaken my muscles a lot more. My arms feel like rubber. Corn seems to give me energy and excitement but combining the two seems to give me the best of both worlds, relaxation and happiness, even though I feel like i can’t lift a pencil
  • 1
@d-fanelli It’s really amazing how different the effects of different alcohols can be, even among the same types!

Dark rum makes me the silliest and happiest, and will probably always be my favorite. Tito’s vodka makes me a relaxed, clean-feeling happy. (Grain vodkas lack that clean feeling and tend to make me tired so I avoid them.) Jameson makes me less stressed (I have a bottle of it on my desk) but too much makes me feel kind of weird, and it doesn’t make me happy. Gin... feels like a harsher (if more cerebral) drunk; I’m not a fan. Tequila has the strongest effect by far and makes me act wild, but tastes absolutely awful.

Making a cocktail is honestly kind of like self-medicating. How do I feel? Which effects would do me the most good? How much of each would I need to achieve the desired effect(s)? Which of these go together? and how much do I really want to drink?

Why can’t anything ever be simple? :)

@Root i know, this is why I don’t try anything but vodka bc it does it’s thing for me, has the lowest hangover of all liquors, and I see no benefit for the risk of trying something else. It sucks that everything in life is so complicated, even when you want to have a relaxing drink lol
  • 1
    @d-fanelli I still have never had a hangover 😅
  • 1
@Root your liver must be a lot stronger than mine lol
  • 0
@Root ugh damn wish I had some liquor right now. Seriously though, I’m anxiety attack prone and just had one. Fucking heart was racing which I hate and simply sat down and shut my brain off. That worked wonders. I’m pretty hardy but had anxiety issues all my life and they suck. I can’t even look at my plate of spaghetti bc the attack started while eating it lol. Hopefully Bolognese sauce on angel hair won’t be a trigger lol
  • 0
Seriously though, my liver can’t break down byproducts from dark beverages nearly as fast as yours can so that’s why rum makes me sick bc my immune system freaks out and goes into fever mode before my slow as molasses liver has a chance to destroy these nasty biochemical barbarians. Rum has such an amazing taste that no other beverage can compare to, and I would give up vodka if not for my horrible digestive system (from the esophagus to my intestines, it’s always been bad lol)

@d-fanelli I’m Irish so I have significant evolutionary advantages there 😉😊
