Ouch - got my first Windows blue screen in years! (Lacking a picture of it, I stole this one from the interwebs)

Cause: The LITE-ON SSD cache drive. So, can't blame MS for this one, but BSODs are great flamebait regardless of cause.

The SSD was 3 years old, which seems a very short life span for an SSD, unless it's an OCZ.

My old laptop which is 9 years has an intel SSD and still running every day without any problems.

@DevotedSniper Actually, as @CodeMasterAlex points out, some SSDs did have a great life span 3 years ago, though only those from Intel and Samsung. I went through statistics (I think it was from behardware.com), and all SSDs had worse reliability than mechanical drives, except Intel and Samsung which were more reliable.

My laptop has one HDD bay and one 42mm M.2 slot (where the cache drive was). So, I'll either find a 42mm M.2 drive with at least 200GB for use as a system drive, or replace the HDD with a 500GB SSD, e.g. the Evo.

BTW, any SSD used for caching should be SLC. But caching is yesterdays tech. An SSD big enough to be system drive + an HDD for storing huge files, like video, is how it should be done today.
