Just used a laptop without an SSD. I almost died.

I kinda wish there was room in laptops for a second LARGER non SSD drive... need more options like that.

@N00bPancakes yeah, but considering how cheap SSDs are these days, I think slapping in a second SSD is even a better idea. My laptop has an M.2 slot and a regular SATA slot. I've filled both of them.

When I first used a laptop with SSD my reaction was "was it in sleep before". Because usually I had to wait about a minute before getting to the desktop.

@Aitkotw I get that. SSDs feel lighting fast when you've using HDDs for so long.

@null-pointer-ex and I'm using sata SSD I've heard NVMe's like 5 times faster.

@Aitkotw theoretically, yes. Nvme is faster than sata. But for general use (booting up, launching programs... ) you won't "feel" much difference. Let me put it this way, it's not as fast as going from hdd to ssd.

@null-pointer-ex yeah I do agree with you, 10sec for boot is enough for me. I was thinking more with the sense of I/O oprations and disk read/writting speed.

@Aitkotw correct. Moving big files and constant disk reads is definitely faster on nvme. It's just that for most people, sata is enough. But I'm all for maximizing speed whenever you can. Nvme all the way lol

@null-pointer-ex come on, if I'm moving a big file and I can get it done just 10sec faster, I'll do everything in my power to do that. We all want things done quickly.

In the end of the day, we both know we'll just be amazed by the speed for 10sec that we just saved

@Aitkotw agreed 100%. I was just saying for your average joe, sata is enough. If all they do is browse the web or do word processing then an extra few seconds won't make a significant difference.

I literally don’t know where this computer came from. After long discussion my wife decides it’s one of her old work laptops that “died”. And her work doesn’t want it back.

Look it up. Shits from 2012, but it’s got an i5 and 6gb of ram.

I put a SSD in it and gave it to my 8 year old. Shits a powerhouse for an 8 year old computer that spent three years in a garage.

@HiFiWiFiSciFi not surprised. most of the time the hdd is the bottleneck for regular users. no wonder that laptop is fast now that it has an ssd installed.
