Looking at the inverse situation.. if someone was talking to me about that experience and even knows that ECMAScript exists I'd assume they were already employed and full time.
-
You might be asking too much. ES6 is sort of a niche "dialect" right now since it requires transpiling to be used in many browsers.
-
code5668yI feel like you should look for someone who is experienced with ES5 but has an interest/understanding of the ES6 features even if they haven't used it.
-
@code I'd be cool with that. I just find it surprising people don't know about the features. Or know that it exists. Even if they can't code in it.
Not having Angular 1.5 knowledge is a bigger red flag honestly because it is so different than Angular 1 with components. -
code5668y@Yankeesrule Agreed - it's shocking how many people apply for web dev roles and have no knowledge of the core standards.
With regards to Angular... Never used it myself so can't say. I'd rather learn React personally :P -
@spongessuck agreed though you don't think they should know it exists? Either way I think the bigger sticking point is Angular 1.5.
-
When you say they only know up to angular 1 and you want angular 1.5... Even if they know 1.2, that's pretty similar to 1.5.
-
A developer with a passion for learning can pick up a framework fairly quickly. With that said, if they haven't even heard about ES6 I would find it hard to believe that they have that passion.

Honest question:
For an open temp role, we are looking for someone that knows and used Angular 1.5 and ECMAScript 6.. yet everyone we have interviewed so far only knows up to Angular 1 and doesn't even know a new version of JavaScript came out, or have never used it before.
Are we really asking too much for someone interested in a temp role or are we just getting unqualified candidates?
