Do it the old fashioned way - take out the hard disk, drop it on floor, put it back in, with any luck it's working, give a slight nod to the brother and walk out!
If that fails - just say "definitely the hard disk!" -
Replacing a hard drive is pretty basic, so you probably could... The question is do you want to...
