Why do they demand 12-month goals when we use Agile Methodologies?
If we do it right, we don't know what we are working on next sprint, let alone 12 months.
Our goals are to work on the highest priority stories. We are not to work on stuff "in the background", so how can we have any long-term goals?
The only things we can plan are outside of our actual jobs (like conferences, training, pilot programs/hackathon projects, etc.) So the only things we can review at the end of the year are not the most important things we do.
Poor managers love numbers and checklists to hide behind.

I'm not sure I agree, although you are correct to some extent.

The company has a 1 year plan because they have requirements to further enhance the product and maintain growth within the business.

What is a business without a business plan? Every business has to have long term goals to succeed, how you get there is up to you.

@drRoss great, the business has long-term goals. That does not mean that every piece of the organization must also have long-term goals (fallacy of division).
