How can I get a career in both music and software development?

I've been wanting to make a procedural music generator for years. If you know a little music theory I figure it should be doable to come up with some algorithms there - especially for genres like ambient.

No clue about potential market though. Games I guess.

I have a friend doing a course on music technology, it's an EE course. He works with DSP and plugins for DAWs. Pretty cool stuff.

Music Information Retrieval may be something you want to start looking into. Lots of funky algorithms to play with, could lead to finding a company that wants an audio engineer or ml engineer for audio applications.
