Why is the PS5 a joke?
They made a new ssd (importance in latency) and a new architecture, where RAM is not needed in games anymore ific, in cooperation with AMD.
The game assets are being streamed directly to the GPU from the SSD without having the RAM as the middleman.
They made something awesome and I hope that the future motherboards and SSD on the PC side of things will get the same features as the PS5.
Edit: Ofc they still need RAM, but not for the game asset side of things. That's what I meant to say. -
I agree with @-ANGRY-STUDENT-
Don't be so superficial and hop on the hate bandwagon because you don't like the design. It has some pretty incredible new tech, the PS5 is an advancement in modern computing. -
@AlgoRythm
Dude nothing is “advancement“ in technology these days. we are hitting a gate size limit now people are making bigger chips that produces more heat and to combat that heat people are changing a sleek design to a big bulky wifi router with airways!! I mean how is this advancement
They could have ideally done the same things with 10 year old chips
also @elonmusk fuck you, since you have released that design abomination of a truck , market thinks it’s ok to make ugly products -
@hardfault Maybe you weren't listening, but the SSD streams game assets directly into the game. Unreal Engine can do things like render meshes with dynamic quality. Movie-level polycounts in a real time rendered video game.
Previous machines were just generic computers with parts picked out that were good for gaming.
Everything about this device is specifically engineered to game. They have engineered a different architecture. It's not all about physical limits. Now that we are getting our transistors too small to pack any more in, the next task is to get really clever. And this is the start of it. -
@AlgoRythm that’s what i am saying they could have gotten clever with 10 year old chipset too, ssd is there in consumer market for long time now (from 2010)
This is not a technological advancement, it’s just we got a bit clever in using old technology !! -
@hardfault An SSD from 2010 would not reach the speeds or capacities needed.
Being clever with existing technology IS technological advancement. -
@hardfault hm.
I find your statement kinda depressing.
It's easy to say that technology isn't advancing at the moment...
But I don't think that's true at all.
What's true is that current transistor technology / FinFet has reached the physical limits... But honestly, that FinFet has made it this far is quite astonishing.
I admit I don't understand a lot about it - mostly because I don't like theoretical science - but...
We were in 2000 at 120-90 nm , 2010 around 45 nm (FinFet around 2012?), currently at 5 nm process node.
I think it's astonishing how many times people said: We hit the physical limit and still they managed to squeeze out more.
I guess it matters how close you look
New PS5 is a fucking joke
