drRoss49148yBut the amount of time you invested in creating the software could have been better spent growing your company...
-
@drRoss I finished all in one month, at the same time the decoration and recruitment works was going on.
-
@darkcode First of all welcome to devrant, secondly give me an estimate cost of automated accounting and financing software with an ai agent for queries!
-
drRoss49148y@mohammed Bullshit. You fucked up.
You spent an entire month distracted from your core business product to focus on some home made accounting software? Why does redecoration or recruitment mean you can lose focus of your business?!?!?! There are probably open source alternatives out there that are better, and would have saved you a month of ignorance and ongoing maintenance costs of the programme. -
@drRoss
1) Calm ur tits!!!
2) Even open source takes time to make it suitable for your business.
3) Lose focus? How im supposed to provide data entry services without typists if I don't hire them!!!
4) you heard of Business plan!! Marketing plan?! Feasibility study!! If you have these prepared no need to work hard on anything else. -
SCollins1388yAnd now when the company gets to 10 employees and does not handle some weird edge case you have to redo a large chunk of it. At 20 everyone hates it because it's getting slower and hard to use and you invest more time and at 30 it gets scrapped
-
@SCollins Do you really think someone will develop that simple software? You guys are trolling me or really serious? Have you ever heard of testing your software?
-
Lessons I learnt in the comments today, never admit to coding a simple version of something expensive...
-
@jacojvvdev
People can't understand that developing 15-20 functionalities are not the same as developing 500 functionalities.
Or they are simply jealous :P -
SCollins1388yI just know from personal experience how damaging software like this can be, I am sure you did a good job but things like this can take soo much time and end up being quite expensive in the long run
-
@SCollins I agree with you with that, but the Same thing goes with open source and premium software like quickbooks and I'm ready to take the risk.
-
In the end, if it does the job you need it to do, then don't replace it. If however your business feels strain from using the custom bred software, moving to something large scale is the right option.
Arguing about this wont really solve anything. Im sure that the right decisions will be made when the time comes. -
drRoss49148y@jacojvvdev That's absolutely not what we're saying. You couldn't have missed the point any harder there.
-
@drRoss As long as I'm making good money and my cashflows are in my favor to reach break-even point sooner, all your points are invalid!
-
darkcode8278yI think what we're all trying to say here is that unless your business is offering services in the financial sector, and therefore experts in the financial domain, you wasted a month of business development on software development, which is death to a startup. There is most likely nothing your financial product does that an established open source or SaaS product wouldn't have been able to do, either through core or integration with a third party SaaS product, which makes it a waste of time during some of the most crucial moments of your startup. This product will cost you maintenance in the long run and as someone else said, will most likely become a pita eventually.
All in all, it's obvious that none of the commentors would make the same decision you did, and their comments most likely speak from experience. To each their own, live and learn. Looking forward to the rant a year from now cursing your past self. -
@darkcode I have made a queue system, invoicing & quotation, auto detection of whats being printed to determine what government eform has been done by the employee, an auto accounting system that tells me exactly what a real accountant would tell me (15-20 functionalities adopted from quickbooks ), payroll app integrated with biometric device, payroll verification using cameras. GPS tracking and tagging for outgoing sales person to determine their payroll. Even if the employees reaches 1000 the only thing I need is to upgrade my server.
You guyz have no idea how much I reduced from my initial capital!!!
The only problem I might face if I change my company's services which will never happen unless I close the company.
And as long as I don't have to pay extra I'm ready to take all the risks. -
@darkcode How many of the commenters owns a service based company? They are developers and think from a developer point.
