If you were given an aptitude test for a job and they put you on a laptop with an wifi connection, would you use the internet to solve any questions you struggled with? I mean is it cheating or is it just using your initiative?

Depends on what they want and whether or not they said it was okay. General test of knowledge, should probably be from memory.

Generally speaking though, if someone asks me to take a boilerplate exam as part of an interview, I'm not interested. That type of interview demonstrates a lack of interest in the collaborative exercise that will manifest itself in the job once you're hired.
