I want to create an open source sort of clone of Facebook but privacy minded.. I deleted mine a few weeks ago because of the massive amount of datacollection. I mean, talking on messenger about shoes for example, then going on fb to see shoe commercials. I mean, fck that man.. you can change some settings but nothing in regards to this. This go beyond my limit of privacy.

    It's honestly a waste.

Not tryna piss in your cereal or anything, but you'd have maybe a few thousand users at best.

Plus like @ScribeOfGoD said, Mastodon already exists.

And really, we were sufficient with just a band called Mastadon. Social media is mostly cancer

Still addicted to that dopamine drip?
    It'll pass.

I must admit I still miss Tumblr a little. I don't even know why. Everyone totally ignored me there, except rare occasions when I'd catch some popular blog's attention and get flamed for days by their followers. I also had my account deleted by TumblrHQ after posting some political content -- directly opposed to their far left views. So. I'm certainly not welcome there. 🙁 And yet I miss it? I really don't understand.

So maybe it won't pass, but it should diminish quite a bit, and you'll be able to ignore it.

It costs companies a lot of money to advertise to people so you may take some pleasure in knowing that if they show you an ad and you don't buy the product, then they've wasted their money.

If you were talking about shoes but had no intention of buying shoes then they paid for nothing.

I work with an automotive company who spend £150+ on showing a single ad to a person regardless of what they know about that person.

I'll also share a little secret.

Unless a company has your email address, they can't advertise to you on Facebook.
