Oh damn, best of luck finding a deal on a new decent one and good luck recovering your data!

Mvzes3465yI've been unfathomably lucky with my drives so far. I've got SSDs that are still kicking after a good 7 years of use, several OS overwrites on it each year. I would've guessed the chips would have given the ghost by now, but nope.
Knocking on wood though, I'll jinx myself in no time with this kind of thought process. -

I tried installing Linux server anti-virus software. After it successfully installed, the computer froze. No single terminal session responded after login. So I rebooted forcefully
After reboot the same thing happened. Some process blocked all other processes.
And after yet another reboot it didn't boot. Swap and root partition was corrupted and I didn't find home partition (LVM).
I'll just have to hope that it wasn't malware....... -
joas19425ySo, I didn't loose anything. I didn't just know that the home folder wasn't a partition in LVM, but a .Private eCryptFS folder instead. It was a pain to manually decrypt and mount, but I got the files back in the end.
The AV-software installed itself to kernel and somehow managed to corrupt initrd and remove base binaries from PATH.
I think I just lost my laptop's home volume... And I don't have a recent backup 😖
