It is traditionally advertised as DSL 16.000 (or ADSL), which really means (up to) 16.000 Kbit (16 Mbit). I guess they did that because bigger number sell better and average Joe would have problems seeing the advantage over 56k (56 Kbit) otherwise. The term 16k is used only informally afaik. With Vectoring the terms VDSL 25/50/100/... have been added, tough e.g 50.000 is used as well. -
