A cousin: Hey, You're a programmer, right?
Me: Yeah, what do you need?
Him: My smart washing machine is not working, can you fix it for me?
Me: Well.. call the company.
Him: How can you call yourself a programmer? You didn't even know how to reconfigure my cable receiver yesterday!..
Me: .... (WTF internally).

    You are a "programmer", this gives you super human powers to wield and understand all technology.

    I my self go by Developer, I just build shit.

    I've never ever had anyone ask me to fix a smart washing machine, fridge or any other appliance because I can code. I see people bitching about that all the time on here . You guys hang out with fuckin weirdos.

    @torpkev It's simple... they think
    since it has something electrical (like a segmented display) then you do know how to fix it ..

    @majeddh no, I get it.. my point stands

    @C0D4 Yeah.. making shit much better than being asked to fix every invention since Thomas Edison!

    @torpkev Yeah, I agree with you. They're weirdos of course!

    I can. You're just not paying me to. So no.

    @majeddh it's all in the job title.
    If you don't want these super powers, don't call yourself a programmer 😅

    these situations exactly are why i'm good at nearly all things electrical/electronic, or at least good enough to refer the clients to some close shop-owning friends of mine who'll give 'em a discount (of like 3.5%, but still...) and be able to fill them in on the problem before the client can even get in the car. Helps them with their image, helps customers get used to pros and save a small amount of cash, and helps me get relevant references and "volunteer" work on my resume.
