The solo might be interesting though, might check it out later: https://solokeys.com/

@chabad360 I won't give a farmer money in advanced to get me possibly the potato I want either, let the others be the cash cow and once it is fully developed and fixed, buy it yourself - or not if something turns out horribly wrong.
-
@chabad360 you'd be surprised how wrong you are lol, there's much more to it than just getting money and having an existing product portfolio, until the actual product is stable in production, you're empty handed until the very end.
Product features have been cut before, cancelled, not enough demand to produce, source code ownership drama, license drama, .. -
Just a word of warning. From the CrowdSupply page:
Somu Hacker and Security
We have two different flavors for all our security keys, including Somu: “secure” for consumers, and “hacker” for developers.
In this campaign, we’re only selling Somu Hacker, the reprogrammable version of Somu (with the exception of the highest pledge value, for which you can choose any combination of Somu Hacker or Somu Secure–on the assumption you’ll want to resell the keys to consumers). -
@ethernetzero yes, yes I know. But just read a bit further. They say that practicaly speaking it's relatively hard for someone else to flash it, and you do have the option of later turning it into a secure Somu.

@JoshBent I'm not entirely familiar with VeraCrypt, can you explain?
Is it a good or bad thing, and why? -
@chabad360 that explains it better :)

@chabad360 props, that's a fast way of discrediting yourself, you got links that explain your question, but instead just ask for "is it bad?... goood?..." aka not reading any of it
-
@JoshBent no... I understand the concept, but I don't understand your point. From what you sent me, it's quite obviously a good thing (at least for it's user). But where does it apply in the case of the Somu? I cant exactly understand what you mean.
-
@chabad360 I was pointing out the advantage of nitrokey over somu: https://www.nitrokey.com/
-
@JoshBent oh!.. but I don't really need that, and I've just been looking for something that's easier on my wallet, and the Somu fits the bill.
-
@chabad360 you mentioned "almost double the price for a key with PGP/SSH support" and I justified further the price by saying why nitrokey has its advantages, not personal recommendation lol
-
@JoshBent fair point, but I'm only needing the PGP/SSH (U2FA is a nice bonus), and won't (ever) be using a feature like plausable deniability... So it's worth it.

Any one ever heard of the Solo? It's basically an open source FIDO compliant U2FA usb (with planned support for PGP/SSH key storage!).
The guys who made it are now miniaturizing it into the "Somu" (Secure Tomu).
Please support it! It's a great project and a great (and cheap) addition to basic system security.
