@Aalpha first year is common across all engineering fields. The idea is to give you an overview of what all is there so that you can make an informed choice about what you want to do in the coming years (and also better all-round education). Bio is a huge field of application for CS and there are many ways in which you can mix the two.

@Aalpha interesting, then why does your blog mention that you're a first year as of May 2019? (Assuming you had your exams, that puts you in 3rd sem right now, not 3rd year).
In any case the point still remains. It's because they want to give you a general overview of all there is. And as for economics, it's super important life stuff. -
Aalpha435y@RememberMe yeah sorry it would be 3rd sem. My bad. But I still feel biology is absolutely of no use in engineering. Then why they don't teach python and data structures and stuffs like that in MBBS?
-
@Aalpha MBBS is about using medical equipment and biology to actually carry out medical procedures. That doesn't really need programming, though I don't see why a determined MBBS student won't be able to pick it up and make something cool.
Life sciences and research-based biology students do learn programming and stuff, they use computers all the time (or they team up with CS folks). Heck, I know a bunch of Economics students and they learn basic programming as well, because it's super useful to them for econometrics and all that. -
@Aalpha there are really cool heavy-CS projects you can do in bio and related fields - computational genetics, simulation of large bio systems, computational neuroscience, embedded programming and verification for medical devices, automated design of medical drugs, biomimicry based systems in robotics, image mapping and processing for detecting and classifying diseases, reading and processing the output of various biosensors and imaging devices, etc.
