@R1100 Security folks often have tunnel vision on security and don't understand that availability is even more important.
Because once you sacrifice availability, the system becomes useless. So you could as well just pull the power plug and fire the security people. -
Check out Port knocking. It allows you to open a port on demand, rather than leave one open.

@Codex404 No, a port does not have to be open. Port knocking is used to open a port, but requires that you have code running on the target system to open the port when it sees the port knock.
